Happy Thanksgiving

I hope your family had a wonderful time today, just like my little family did. We started our morning off with breakfast and watching the Macy's 88th thanksgiving day parade from the comfort of our home. The kiddos enjoyed that every much and squealed with delight when they saw the floats and the balloons of all their favorite characters. Watching the parade will now become a family tradition. We even watched a few movies, Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving Day Special and Free Birds.

Of course the day wouldn't be complete without food, which there was plenty. We didn't go out shopping to any Black Friday sales. It saddens me how the stores are opening up earlier and earlier. I guess next year they will open at 3pm since they started at 5pm. Today should have been about family, not shopping.

A New Mom's Reaction To What Is Going On In Ferguson

I would like to not talk about Ferguson. I’d like to turn a blind eye and stay in my own world, full of first mom wonders & worries, diapers & onesies, Sesamie Streets & Peg+Cat, but I can’t not talk about Ferguson, because the child in my lap, the sweet one that I nurse & nourish is brown and male just like Michael Brown. I educate him on his extremities, sing sweet ABC’s to him, but one day there will come a time that I’ll have to educate him on how to live.

No son, you can’t play with water guns that look real in public, you can’t run freely in public without looking like you’re truly exercising and even then you’ll need to have ID, be mindful of your wardrobe. Always keep your hands up, and be especially cautious when stopped by the police. Actually, it will be better for his father to talk to him. The highly talented artist & decorated veteran that I personally saw make himself smaller, his speech slower, words deliberate in the presence of a cop while taking photos at sundown on the Reservoir. That officer wore the same Airborne wings that adorned my husbands uniform a few years ago, but there was no brotherhood in his tone as his words angrily spat down on my husband, heated accusations of trespassing and disobeying a locked gate that wasn’t, all the while with his hand on his weapon.

In that moment, full of our seed, a brown male child that we created, I felt angry. I didn’t recognize the man he became in that instant, so he can be a father to our son in months. I wanted to scream at the officer can’t you see, the same divinity that lies in you is in him? Can’t you see how beautiful & valuable he is, that his life matters as much as yours, and the life of our son matters like your kids?

So, I have to talk about Ferguson because one day regardless of the many wonderful friends & family we have of different hues, & religions, someone will attempt to make him feel small. Someone will point out his difference and associate it with people they feel mirror him. Someone will associate my son with some image seen in the media. I have to talk to my son because someday his chubby cheeks will flatten and grow hair, his baby babbles & coos become deep based vibrations that may strike chords of fear in those around him and that fear could lead to his death.

It makes me uncomfortable, it makes me feel helpless but it’s necessary like the air we all breathe. I encourage you to talk about it as well in hopes the next generation can breathe a bit freer, answer questions we refuse to ask and clean up our mistakes wrapped in fears.  For they will take care of us in our twilight and hopefully bear a torch into a brighter future.

NorthPole Fun at Walmart

We have hit the christmas jack pot !!!! Time to bring some more Christmas Magic to our household.

I am about to go crazy in our local Walmart!!! All the goodies from the Hallmark Movie; NorthPole (see blog post) is here in one location!  I am suppose to be shopping for Thanksgiving dinner but I made a detour. So much stuff to choose from, trying not to buy it all.  Right now I am a kid in a candy store with a pocket full of cash.

I will most certainly be purchasing the Find Me Santa snowflake. Remember in the movie, santa gave Kevin this exact same snowflake and told him to out this in his window and he will find him on Christmas Eve. The packaging says it comes comes with an extra sticker so you can personalize it with your name; I am going to put our last name on ours.

The magic snowball is another must have from the movie. It even glows green like the northern lights. I have always thought of ways to incorporate it into our family traditions this year. We will throw the snowball at each other and the person who catches it will have to share a happy memory of christmas. Remember what Clementine said in the movie, you can't help but laugh when hit with a magic snowball.

We don't get that much snow here in Mississippi but this avalauncher seems like such a nice toy to take outside on a warm winter day.

This is what my cart looks like now and let me remind you I came to Walmart solely for buying things needed for Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe I should Go to Christmas AA cause I believe I do have a true addiction to buying Christmas decor LOL .

Hallmark Channel's North Pole Movie Review

I get an email from a reader, asking have my kiddos seen the Hallmark Channel's North Pole movie because the North Pole Communicator (see blog post)  is featured in the the movie.

We haven't seen the movie when I purchased the communicator; but a quick check of my tv's local listing stated that it would come on at 3pm. So I quickly decided that we will watch this movie and with every movie you need snacks right ?

So this is exactly how we spent our Saturday afternoon, curled up on the couch watching the North Pole Movie.

Let me say, I love this movie and have to go buy it. It was filled with so many cute items that we are going to purchase  (magic snowballs, tree luminator , find me santa snowflake, etc)  to get our family traditions and Christmas magic going and flowing.

Here is my review in a nutshell about this movie.......

We all know the North Pole is the magical home to Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves. However what this movie tells us, is this hug city is powered by the magic of christmas from everyone around the world. Only in today's time, the city is in trouble, because people everywhere have gotten too busy to enjoy christmas together. A young elf name Clementine notices that there is a problem with the Northern lights. The problem is, there's not enough Christmas happiness in the world to fuel the northern lights, which provide the energy for North Pole, which, in turn, sends toys to the children, thereby sparking the happiness, which then fuels ... Get the drift? It's called the Cycle of Happiness. That's when Clementine decides that she must find a way to help people rediscover the magic of Christmas. Kevin and his mom have moved to a new town, which is a perfect example of happiness at risk. The mayor has canceled the century old Christmas tree lighting ceremony. So Clementine has decided that she is going to take matters into her own hands, when she hears Kevin asks the same questions she was wondering. She enlists Kevin to be her earthling accomplice, and the two set out to start the cycle anew.  She leaves an early Christmas gift for Kevin which turns out to be a North Pole communicator.

The two talks, and Kevin is skeptical that he is talking to a real elf from the North Pole, but they become friends anyway. Clementine takes one of Santa's reindeer Randy and heads off to our world to meet up with Kevin.

Kevin was pretty shocked when he looked outside and saw Clementine the elf

She tells him to jump on in the sleigh, and she takes him back to the North Pole, so he can see for himself how the city is in trouble

They arrived at the North Pole , and Kevin sees for himself that the place is real and in trouble because Christmas magic is dying out.

Clementine has to hide the fact that Kevin was from our world so she made him change into elf clothing, but they run into Santa and Mrs Claus. Santa knew who Kevin was right away. To prove that he was indeed the real Santa; he hands Kevin a magic snowflake so he can rest assured that santa will find him on Christmas. Thus proving. that he is real because Kevin's biggest worry about moving was, how would santa find his new home.

Now this new job of trying to restore Christmas magic, isn't going to be easy for Kevin and Clementine. Kevin's mom is a reporter , doesn't believes him when he tells her about traveling to the North Pole and being friends with an elf, the town is apathetic. Not to mention Kevin is also the new boy in town and hasn't made any friends yet.  The duo, do however find an ally in the most unlikely of sources; Kevin's teacher.

Not wanting to spoil the entire plot of the movie let's just say, it took a little bit of faith to get everyone to believe in Christmas Magic again and when all seemed lost, something wonderful happened..... But you gotta watch the movie to find out for yourself.

And because so, there was enough energy to power Santa's sleigh

Overall, we enjoyed this movie and it will be apart of our Christmas Collection for years to come. It was all about believing in the magic of christmas and spending time with family. The movie has also inspired and introduced, a line of North Pole fun traditions to start in your home and we are off to the store to pick up a few to add to our ever growing list of Christmas traditions.

A Key for Santa

In my household, Santa doesn't bring all the toys. Santa however leaves one special gift for the kiddos and they know that the rest come from me. They make out their wish list well in advance. So keeping with the fact that the kiddos have gotten older, I decided that in addition  to our little elf door (see the blog post about that one); we will have a magical key for Santa. I have decided that I will let the kids decided on leaving the key outside or allowing our scout elf to carry it to the North Pole and handing it to Santa personally.

Our Santa key

A special note attach to the key

Our North Pole Communicator

I know Thanksgiving is in a few days but, I am always in the Christmas spirit before Halloween. So my next few posts will be about the things I have found while getting ready for our magical Christmas. In case you don't know, I love Christmas; I try to do it big and I don't mean materialistic either. I want to instill traditions and a bit of christmas Magic within the season. My children will most certainly know the true meaning of christmas.

So any who, I love Christmas decorations. Went out to do a little shopping and this display caught my eyes at My local hallmark Gold Crown Store.

What fun way to bring a little christmas Magic to our household, with our very own North Pole Communicator!!!!

The entire purpose of this communicator is so that the children can call the North Pole daily and have real conversations with Santa, the elves and Mrs Claus. But the deal with how this thing work is; they can only start calling on December 1st , and you can only call once a day. I think this will be perfect for our extra dose of Christmas magic. I believe on thanksgiving night I am going to let our scout elf leave this out for the kiddos to discover, along with a note from the Big Guy (Santa) himself explaining the rules and how this will work. I honestly think I am going to enjoy this as part of our Christmas traditions more than the kids will.

Buying on EBay

This is what I get for ordering gifts off of eBay,

Ordered this from sanhe777

It arrived broken with one of the back charms completely off and you can see the glue where the charm is suppose to be and the charm itself is on the side of the package. The rest of the charms are very loose. And notice it's still in the original packaging.

Oh the Irony : breastfeeding doll and toys that require your child to play with poop

Do y'all remember a couple of years ago, when a certain doll came out that had everyone in an uproar because it was considered to be unnatural and forcing little girls to grow up too fast?

In case you forgot or didn't hear about such a doll let me refresh your memory

The Breast Milk Baby

This doll caused such an uproar within a small circle of mommy friends who felt that it was an inappropriate toy for my child to play with but for theirs as well. I had a few mothers thrilled to see such a doll and decided to get one for their child as well. I had one mom tried to get me to give it to her child as a gift instead of my own child (for $89.99 that was not going to happen). But two years ago this doll was the negative talk around a certain circle of Mommy friends.

Now this is what I find ironic. These moms talked about my child playing with a breast milk baby, something that is the most natural thing in the world but guess what hot new toys they are buying their daughters this year?

What I don't get is how is letting your child play with a Laloopsy doll who poops out charms? That doesn't seem quite natural to me. I have send some weird dirty diapers but not once had I send any charms come out and I don't think I would want to wear anything that my child poops out. Or what about the Barbie Doll who is picking up poop from her dog. I just don't get these moms. You will allow your child to play with poop but they can't  play with a doll whose sole purpose is to normalize breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is the most natural beautiful thing thing in the world. So why not allow your child to play with a doll like that teaches her about breastfeeding? I just don't get it. A few of these moms went in on me for giving such a doll to my child, But hey as a child myself I nursed my baby dolls and would have loved to have had a breastfeeding doll if they had been out. But I can tell you right now that my mom wouldn't have brought it because of the price.  I am however thankful for the other moms who have join forces and purchased one of these dolls for their daughters, so we can educate and help normalize breastfeeding.

I even recommend these dolls when I teach my breastfeeding classes and sibling classes. They are good to have on hand (or any other doll would work just fine) so when momma is nursing her newborn Big sister can pretend she is nursing her baby as well. Even with out a new baby in the household, these are such a wonderful doll for kids to play with. Babies were born to breastfeed, its the most beautiful thing in the world. My daughter only breastfeed her baby doll and I see nothing wrong with it. Its not sick nor pervert, nor is she going to become a teen mom. She is doing what she sees me do, what she seen other women do when its times to feed their babies. As a matter of fact, none of her dolls have bottles. Even the dolls who come with bottles, they are simply taken away.

The Giving Plate / pass it along plate

Unloading the groceries and my neighbor comes over and hands me a plate full of brownies. Apparently there is a new thing out called : The Giving Plate or Pass it Along plate .

So now it's our turn to pay it forward. Got the little one helping bake cookies so we can drop them off to a neighbor a few houses down.

Thanksgiving Homeschooling Lessons

We have been preparing for Thanksgiving during our homeschooling time, learning about the first thanksgiving and why we celebrate the day. As well as listing things we are thankful for. Our lessons this month included worksheets and crafts with thanksgiving themes. We even had a special thanksgiving snack with the help of Pinterest.

First stop was the local library and book store to get a stash of books. Story times for us this month included books that dealt with our, theme of Thanksgiving.

I believe having a Thankful Tree will become apart of our family's tradition. I think each year we will make one. For those of you unfamiliar with a thankful tree, it's simple. You make a tree and list all the things you are thankful for on it. I want to keep a scrapbook of all our thankful trees so we can look back over the years at the things we were thankful for.

Thanksgiving Day crafts which I must admit, I will probably have the kiddos making these every year until I am old and gray. I have truly enjoyed this. It's fun now that they are older and we can do more.

But if you let the kiddos tell you, I am sure the candy turkeys were their favorite

Open Letter To ToysRUs Online Department

Dear ToysRUs Online,

You would think that the nations largest retailer of toys would have excellent Customer service when it comes to ordering things online, However this is the 3rd time that I have an issue with your online department. I call the customer service number and get the run around. The reps only read what is listed on a script and keep saying, I apologize, I apologize. What they should be apologizing for is being complete idiots. It makes no sense for your online department to suck so badly.  It's like playing Russian roulette when it comes to ordering from you all. Like seriously, either you send out the wrong product or you send out a product that is completely broken. Seriously how could you not look at the item before you boxed it up and not notice that it was smashed and had a huge crack in it? From now on all shopping will either be done at the local store, cause the staff there is so friendly and helpful and what we can't find there we will be shopping at Target or Walmart in store and online.  I think you should close your online department until someone figures out how to manage it correctly cause if you look at your Facebook page, it's more then just me with this problem. Where do you hire your employees from? idiots R Us?

Signed ,

A frustrated mother who have been dealing with you idiots about trying to correct her order since September and it's Now Novemeber.

Family Game Night

Monday Night in our household is Family Game Night! Now that the kiddos are getting older, I am trying to make sure we have certain traditions that they remember out about their childhoods. For instance, Monday Nights Will always be about family game night, and Friday Nights will always be family movie night. Sure things will change when they get older and start hanging out with their friends but I am more focus on building memories and family times now; I can worry about what's down the road when we cross that path.

An assortment of everyone's fun favorite food will always be on the memu during family game night. I decided that we will not eat at the dinner table but more so in the family room picnic style on the floor. This way we can change it up a bit and talk about our day , the things we did and what we enjoyed most of all.

My focus when it comes to games is, stuff that can be played together, and right now because of their ages; I am staying away from a lot of games that requires a ton of reading. I enjoy spending time with my children and playing games and bonding as a family. Who knows we may have a closet full of board games. Pssstttttt ....... That is my secret goal, to do just that. I want our hall closet to be filled with board games that we all enjoy playing,

For those of you who do family game night tell me, what are your favorite games to play with your children? How often do you do family game night? Is it weekly or monthly?

I believe that when my children are older we will have to move family game night to monthly instead of weekly. But for now, Family game night is something that we look forward to each and every week.

Our Scout Elf has returned !!!

It's that time a year again, last year during my break from blogging, I decided to embrace the tradition of having an elf on the shelf. Personally I think I enjoyed the elf more then the kids. This year I will be doing different things with our elf that will require a lot more christma Magic on the kids part.

For instance, this has now appeared in the kitchen.......

Our very own elf door, this way Our elf can travel back and forth to the North Pole with no problems. The rules are the same for the door as for the elf. The kiddos know that they cannot touch the door because only our scout elf have the powers to open and close it.

Our elf made his grand appearance with a North Pole Breakfast. I believe this year I will have our elf leave a few dollar store treats here and there for the kids. It was a delight watching them wake up every morning looking for the elf, sometimes our elf would change position while they napped. This is one christmas tradition that I am happy to embrace and look forward to doing every single year.

The Tale Of Two Graduating Breastfeeding Moms Photos And The Immature People Who Want To Turn It Into A Race War

Unless you have been under a rock lately , I am sure you have seen the full out debate about race and breastfeeding on two similar breastfeeding photos , posted by moms at their college graduations.

Karlesha and Jacci , the two mothers who posted the photos aren't the ones who started the debate, It's simple minded people who want to turn everything into a war about race and cry racism at every little turn. I am not denying the fact that racism is alive and well in the USA ; however if you continue to cry racists, and racism at every little thing and turning everything into a race issue; you will developed the BOY WHO CRIED WOLF syndrome and we won't be quick to respond when something truly racist happens.  These photos aren't racist, but you have people who want a race war over them. These photos and the reactions they received are because of the country / culture these ladies live in. The issue at hand isn't about black or white , but about normalizing breastfeeding everywhere.

It all started when Karlesha Thurman, an American student posted a photo from her College graduation back in May of 2014. The Internet went crazy and villianize her for doing so.

***photos taken from an American News sites***

And it was met with praises from American News sites as well

Breastfeeding advocates like myself came to her defense against the critics  to help normalize breastfeeding and nursing in public.

Then you have Jacci Sharkey, a mother from Australia, who posted a photo of herself as well, breastfeeding her child at graduation. Now here is what I want you to pay attention to. Jacci is from Australia , they have very different views about breastfeeding in general. It is more acceptable to see a mother nursing in public there than it is in America plus they have laws that they enforce to protect breastfeeding moms. However you still have those in Australia who would prefer for a mom to nurse in private but mainly its a social norm to see a nursing mom.

The media in Australia unlike the USA painted a different photo of this nursing mom.  Check out these headlines from Australian news sites.

Now when the Daily News shared the story from an Aussie news site, they used the same headline and put it under their world news section. This is where it all went downhill and you had immature people trying to turn this into a race war, instead of focusing on the fact that the country is talking about breastfeeding.

The daily news only shared a worldwide story and suddenly you have people claiming racism. There is nothing racist about these two photos nor the headlines they received. What any educated person would have saw, was the fact that Australia has more open views on breastfeeding in public while america has very closed views.

This is when you had immature people starting to state how racist the headlines are. Trying to shift this into a race war instead of how two different areas in the world view breastfeeding. One of the most horrendous examples was a blog posted by Ashley Wright.

Ashley made her entire blog about race and racism, not once did she mention the fact that this isn't a race issue. This issue is about how breastfeeding is viewed around the world. But instead , she chose to whine and cry Racism. Oh give me a break Ashley, there is nothing racist going on. What we have going on is folks like you  (Ashley) trying to make this about race. The only way her blog and its title would make sense was had Jacci Sharkey been an American and at an American College when she posted her photo, then Ashley you and all the other immature people can scream out racism, but getting mad because this story has hit the USA news sites under the world news sections, and they are using the same caption from the Aussie sites is crazy.

Let's dissect Ashley's blog for the foolishness that it is:

First thing you can see from the photo is that she is addressing this a a race / color problem. In other words she wants to turn this into a black white issue instead of a normalizing Breastfeeding issue

Okay how in the world is Ashley comparing two photos shot in to different parts of the country to Hurricane Katrina or the unfair treatments to African Americans in our justice system and media? We cannot control how the Aussie Media works, we are Americans and location is the key in this story.

Now this is where Ashley loses all credibility, in comparing these graduating photos captions to this above photo dealing with Hurricane Katrina. Both photos were taken in American and yet both received different captions with racist undertones we can agree. however you cannot take two photos that were taken in two different parts of the world and cry Racism here in America. Maybe Ashley needs to take a closer looks at where these major news sites for the USA had these stories placed on their sites; it's located in the world news section. That means that these sites used the captions from the original Aussie source as they shared it under world news in there sites. and that is just what it is: World News not American News.

As you can see , the daily news which is a major American news source has the article listed under its world news section. This story wasn't an American story to begin with so the difference in the headlines aren't racist as Ashley is trying to make them out to be but more so a cultural thing. Aussie media is more open to breastfeeding while ours is not.

Then we get to the heart of the issue, Ashley is more concern with why major American Sites aren't sharing her photos of her breastfeeding than she is about the normalizing breastfeeding movement itself.

as you can see from the above photo, Ashley is more concern about becoming Internet  famous , then the normalizing breastfeeding movement.  She makes the ridiculous claims : stating that major news media in America do not show black women because we aren't adorable enough, but most importantly she is upset because they aren't sharing any of her breastfeeding photos. And the reason why , is because this country was founded upon racism. As a black woman / mother / breastfeeding advocate myself I find it sad and heartbreaking that Ashley is making this situation into a whining entitlement session and crying about racism, when it's not.  It's very clear that she is only concern with becoming Internet famous and wanting to know why american sites aren't showing her photos of breastfeeding.

Well let's take a look at why major American sites aren't showing your photos shall we?!? :

These are some of the photos that Ashley wants to be shared by major American news sites; to help promote normalizing breastfeeding and nursing in public and she is quite upset (her words , not mines ) that they aren't sharing her photos. Now as beautiful and artistic that these photos may be; These. images aren't what we think about when we are trying to normalize breastfeeding. When was the last time you saw a naked mother nursing her child at the mall or the restaurant.

However Ashley is quite wrong, when I searched these sites for breastfeeding stories not only did they have white women but they had black women as well. And you will notice something quite different in the photos that these major news sites chose to share.

Now I wasn't the only one who saw, Ashley's blog as the foolishness it was for trying to make a race war between Karlesha and Jacci's photo. Let's take a look at some other folks who called her out on her nonsense.

Now Ashley ask this commenter what does location have to do with the articles title from major publications? Ummm Ashley , location has everything to do with it sweetie. Huffington post shared a world story and used the title from the original source, the articles are listed under world news. World news means news from around the world, in other words Ashley, it's not American news for it didn't happen in America. World News = any news that took place outside of America.

She stills doesn't get so she chooses to whine about it. Ashley thinks that because the American sites are reporting a story that they are the reason for the titles, no honey, the titles come from the origin of the story. The Aussie sites are the ones who reported it first. When it hit the american sites, it was using the same titles from the original source shared under world news.

Let's look at more comments from commenters who are calling her out on this foolishness

Again in this above photo you can see where Ashley is trying her best to make this about race and move the focus from how two very different countries view breastfeeding

More comments of people seeing the real issue at hand and not the race war Ashley wants it to be, and calling her out for what she is really doing , which is Attention seeking and trying to become Internet famous.

Now this is where I am certain that Ashley must be bipolar because when she gets called out for her crap by Natasha,  she claims she never said that. Let me help refresh , Ms Ashley Wright's memory.

Maybe Ashley needs to have someone read her article back to her cause Natasha didn't make it up,  these are Ashley's  words not anyone's else's  and just to be clear let me underline the key points.

I was quite shocked that she would take a breastfeeding issue and turn it into a whinning session on why it wasn't featuring her and trying to call racisim. Maybe it was because she felt that once it hit the American sites that she should have been called for an interview,  after all she was called for an interview from News One Now on the Karlesha Thurman photo.

It's clear now that for Ashley this is more about being internet famous then helping the breastfeeding community.  She says she wants to help normalize breastfeeding not only in the black community but in America in general.  If that was true then her real issue would not be why her photos aren't being shared by major news outlets in America and trying to turn these two graduating photos into a race war.  Her issue will be why can't America view breastfeeding like Australia?

To title Her blog:

Would have worked had she not turned it around into a race issue.  It could have been the difference is, as an American I get shamed because my country has backward views.  Or maybe what she really means is that she get shamed for the type of photos she posts regarding nursing in public in comparison to Karlesha and Jacci's photo .

Yeah I can see that blog title working if you wanted to compare it to you getting shamed because of the type of photos you post in regards to nursing.  But then again you can not Compare your photo to that of the breastfeeding graduating moms.

Yet you have more people who are so simple minded that they try to turn every little thing into something racist

^^^^thank you Mike I see race baiters as well.  We need to face the facts that women of all races are being victimized for breastfeeding especially while doing it in public.  I guess these same folks don't see the news articles about moms like these:

Moms across our nation are being victimized  and villianize for nursing while in public. This isn't a black / white issue. This is a motherhood issue that bonds mothers together regardless of race.  That is why you have true breastfeeding advocates standing up for nursing mothers. Not so called advocates who want to make a name for themselves and turn everything into a racist ordeal.
