Fantasizing about sleep

Some days all I can do is daydream about how much sleep I had as a person with no kiddos. Yesterday , I daydream about sleeping on my green couch at my 1st apartment with my favorite Pillow and wrapped in a warm blanket. Back then I was single , just finished college and my daydreams were about marriage and having children. Boy was I insane. Cause now all I think about is how I use to sleep late, sleep as often or for how long I wanted. Sleeping in a bed without any kids hogging it!

Sexual Education

Mississippi is also known as the bible belt of the south, have decided to put sexual education back in the schools , but their is one catch: They want sex Ed taught but without teaching the students about condoms and prevention. How can u teach sex ed without teaching condoms and prevention? This is just another way for our youth to be misinformed. They are basically being taught to fool around without protection. These young people are catching and spreading disease. We gotta stand together and save our kids. It's okay to teach them about condoms, and birth control. We need to start giving our youth the facts. This is the only way to lower our statics of teen births and STD cases. And all you Christian parents , just relax , raise your kids to make great choices and informing them of prevention isnt going to send them to hell in a hand basket. When I was in college I took a health class and sadly to say, all the freshman involved in this class was actually in their first sex education class. And it was taught with the facts in details and with graphics . We learn about diseases and prevention. Very informative class that should also be thought in our middle and high schools. I was thinking about how many folks wouldn't have gotten pregnant as teenagers if they had this class.

Caillou

I must say , I am secretly glad that my son hates this annoying cartoon. Caillou is a freaking sissy!!! He gives up too easily and whines far too freaking much!!!! What is the deal with this kid??? Toughen up boy !!! I don't want my son to be that weak kid who cries at the drop of a dime. His voice is annoying and I think that's why my kid hates him. And in retrospect I actually know a couple of kids who are around my sons age who act just like that and it works my nerve. Seriously , this cartoon boy is Afraid of everything , kinda like how this one little boy in the play group is scared of Bambi ! Yes the movie Bambi. They were over my house and I put on the movie the Lorax and holy smokes it scared that kid as well. What kind of children are you raising??? His mom said that the movie gave her kid nightmares. really??? your son got nightmares from watching the Lorax ??? It's a freaking movie about saving the trees, what the heck???
I am sorry but I refuse to raise a little whiney sissy like Caillou

An Open Letter To Lazy Homeschooling Parents

Today's post may come across as rather harsh, but this subject has been weighing on my heart for quite some time. I do not mean to hurt or discourage anyone, but I feel that this is important. I also want to make it clear that I support homeschooling and recognize that there is great flexibility within a legitimate homeschool experience. However, I am concerned about some of the things that I have seen. As a result, I am directing this post to homeschool parents who have become lazy in their children's education. You have enjoyed the freedom to homeschool that previous generations have worked so hard to earn and have forgotten the price they have paid for your freedom.

In the early days of the homeschooling movement, some parents actually spent time in jail before the law finally recognized their right to educate their own children. In those days, it was common for parents to keep their children inside during school hours lest nosy neighbors report them for truancy. The early homeschoolers may have homeschooled in fear, but that fear motivated them to vigilance. Parents would have to keep boxes full of old school papers , just in case they ever needed to prove that their children was doing schoolwork and not just sitting at home in front of the tv all day. These parents knew that the only way they would be allowed to homeschool would be to prove they could deliver results. Test scores were extremely important. Their children were expected to outshine their public-schooled peers, and they did. Even the most ardent critics of homeschooling have not been able to argue against homeschool's successes. Although some kids might occasionally slip through the cracks, it's easy to remind the critics that public school has more than its share of failures, too.

Today Parents who homeschool no longer educate in fear. We've proven ourselves, and as a result it has become socially accepted and legally protected. Everyone knows someone who Homeschool their children.
Yet that freedom may be causing some to be lax. We must not forget that the government longs to extend its reach and subject us to further regulation. If we do not continue to deliver a superior product as compared to the public schools, the naysayers will eventually succeed in convincing lawmakers that we need more oversight. The only way to avoid that is to prove that we don't need it. We cannot take the responsibility of homeschooling lightly--we must regulate ourselves.

Please, I beg you, if you are going to homeschool, actually teach your children. While there is educational value in learning , don't spend days on end, going to the park, doing arts and crafts , or having play dates and calling it school. That's cheating. Household chores are not "home ec" and are certainly not worth a full day of school. When it's school, kids should be getting a chance to learn something new, not having to do something they already know how to do and do every day anyway. And please, above all, do not just assign a bunch of work to your kids and leave them alone to get it done by themselves. In all likelihood, they won't. You have to be there and be involved. Follow up on assignments. Check their work and make sure they understand concepts. Be there to answer their questions. Challenge them to do better.

We have got to take this seriously. In some school districts in across the states, high schools are requiring their dropouts to register as homeschoolers in order to make themselves look better. This is already going to reflect badly on homeschoolers when those students enter the work force without a proper education. The least we can do is not add to the problem by becoming lax ourselves.

If you call yourself a homeschooler but you do not actually educate your child, you are not a homeschooler in my opinion. You are simply truant. You might as well put your kid back into public school because you are not only doing your child a disservice, but all of the other homeschoolers as well. Remember that as in everything else, with freedom comes responsibility. Please, take your job as a homeschool parent seriously. The future of homeschooling depends on it. Our children cannot compete in the job marketplace of tomorrow without the basic skills that allow them the freedom to choose a career that will support themselves and their families. With limited skills comes limited choice. We all suffer the taint of those who choose to confuse freedom with irresponsibility.

Planning A Child's Birthday Party in MS

Planning a child's birthday party is no joke, a lot of work, time and effort goes into making the event something to remember. And if you are like me , it must be a theme party. A lot of Mississippi Moms have been asking me, who do I need to go to, to help plan the prefect party that will be talked about for days. Because they know I only deal with the best of the best and my opinion is something money cannot buy. Whenever I book a party or hire someone to do a service for me, they have no clue as to who I am because I don't want anything for free, I am not the person who looks for freebies just so you can have a good review. Even when I attend other parties or events my eyes are always open looking for new talent. So for all you Mississippi Moms in the Jackson Metro area , this is for you.

First thing first we need to come up with a theme for your child's birthday party. Remember this party is for your child so pick a theme according to the child's likes, nothing is worse than having the birthday child upset because they are in love with Sesame street and you held a Mickey mouse clubhouse party.

Once you pick your theme , you need to start thinking about cakes. Your cake should be the centerpiece of the party. We all seen the show on TLC Cake Boss, and I am sure you are thinking where can I find someone like that in the Jackson area to create the cake of my dreams for my child's party ? Well, I advise you to go to www.justkaking.com and like his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/JusKaking . The owner Jeromie Jones is amazing!!!! He can create any cake you desire to fit your theme exactly. Your guest will be in awe when they see your cake at the party , it will be done to such perfection that you wouldn't want to cut it.

So now that your cake is out the way, you need to start thinking about decorations and party favors, and invitations , thank you cards . You want all your decorations and favors , invites , thank you cards to match your theme perfectly and if you aren't that crafty or just want some unique ideas at the party to have your guests really take notice , you need to contact Sonya; https://sites.google.com/site/gotfavorsdesigns/home and follow her on instagram : ilovecrafts. She will most certainly bring that special touch of personalization to each of your favors, decorations, invites, and thank you cards. Remember the Invitation to the party speaks volumes, and you need one that will stand out and make you guests feel like that shouldn't miss this event.

Candy Apples would be a great bonus as a party favor for your guest, but since we aren't trying to throw just any old party, you need to find someone who make gourmet candy apples, that taste just as good as they look and come in such favors as, Oreo cookie, cheesecake, twin, snickers, M&Ms and so on. For this service you need to contact Stephanie. Like her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sweetcreations012

A big trend now is to have a face painter. But you just don't want anybody to come and paint faces, you need someone with some mad skills, that is where PrissyPaintbrush come into play. The Owner Hope Mallard is very talented and works super fast so even the youngest of the party guests won't get tired while she is working on their design. Check out her out at : http://m.prissypaintbrush.com/ and like her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PrissyPaintbrush. As and added bonus if you are looking for a custom piece of furniture or outfit for your child to wear to the party Prissy Paintbrush is your place.

Now on to the entertainment, you will need to chose someone who is kid friendly and can keep their attention because no one wants a dull boring party. that is where you need the services of Dorian LaChance the Magic Man. You can check him out at : http://www.magicbydorian.com/ and like his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MississippiMagician . From doing magic tricks, telling jokes to making Balloon animals, Dorian will be the life of the party and keep your guest entertain.

Location , Location, location is a must for any party. And unless you are going to host it at your house, in the jackson metro area , the pickings are pretty slim. My favorite places are, PUMP IT UP!, Skate and Shake, MS children's museum, AG Museum. Winner's Circle Park, Shiloh's Splash Park, the Jackson Zoo, Lefluer's Bluff state park, Pampered Princess Mini Day Spa.

Lastly I suggest you hire a professional photographer, surely you can get a family member to take photos but why take the risk of them not being clear. These are precious memories that you want to preserve. And you as the parent need to be in the photos, so a photographer can walk around the party capturing all the shots you need. Leaving you without the headache and the worry if you missed something and years down the road; when you look at pictures you will be right in them enjoying your child's special day.

So there you have it Mississippi Moms, I have done my research and these are the vendors you need to contact in order to have a successful birthday party that will be talked about for weeks. I am sure some of you will read this and be like, we'll I can just go to , Walmart , Krogers, target, Sam's club, and party city and be done with it. Well sure you can go to those places if you want a "cookie cutter" party. But this blog post isn't about throwing a "cookie cutter" party like everyone else. This post is about throwing a one of a kind party that will be talked about for weeks and months to come.

Alternative Schools

Mississippi public schools have a dangerous attitude toward our "alternative schools" that needs to change. They consider these schools to be detention centers for "bad kids" where you send problem students you want to get out of sight and "whip" into shape.

The attitude should rather be that these schools are for children who have various psychological and behavior disorders, neurological disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and learning disorders which the mainstream classrooms and regular special ed classrooms are not equipped to handle. These children need individualized, non-traditional methods in order to thrive in a group environment and learn. Treating them like criminals in a mini-prison for ne'er-do-well good-for-nothing reprobates which the system has thrown in the trash is one of the travesties of our school system which often gets swept under the rug and forgotten.
