iPad the best learning tool to give your child

It amazes me how the times have changed, when I was growing up the best educational thing that you could have in your house was a speak and spell, then it was a set of encyclopedias, then it was the home computer. I remember when windows 95 came out and we had got Compton's interactive encyclopedia. School work was super easy for me after that. Then came the Internet and no longer having to go to the library because I had information right at my fingertips. Well times they are a changing (boy I sound like my grandmother)

Now it seems that if you want your child to excel in school then it is imperative that you purchase an iPad. I would even go as far as saying purchase one for your toddler/ preschooler or kindergarten . I know what you are thinking, why would I buy such an expensive machine to hand over? Well first of all, you can buy a heavy duty case to protect your investment and sure $499 for your basic 16gb iPad does seem like a lot of money but it is actually cheaper to buy an iPad versus, Leappad , Vtech learning systems, etc.

When you look at it like this: you spend about $99 for a leapfrog Leappad . Then you have to spend like at least $15 for additional cartridges of games and books. Same with the tag reader system and the same with the Vtech systems as well. Now the pros for these systems are that they are toddler / preschool friendly meaning they can handle being drop and bump around. But the cons is that your child can easily out grow them. With the iPad, it's simple , purchase the smallest one on the market and for $499 that will be the iPad 16GB. Or you may find one even cheaper buying used. Once you have your iPad, I suggest putting a tough case on it to protect it from being dropped . I have two cases actually. The fisher price appitivity case , which hides the home button so my love bug can't exit out of apps. And it comes with a shield over the screen to protect from wetness. And an otterbox case.

Okay , the apple store has tons of educational apps, most of which are free. Then the ones you have to pay for run anywhere from $.99 -6.99 (the App store Runs sales All the time And alot of apps let you try before you buy) And the iPad grows with your kids. One of my favorite apps are the ocean house media ones. Their interactive books run anywhere from $1.99-699. (they do have two bundles to where you can get like 5 books for $11.99) And the Dr Suess books always goes on sale 50% off during his birthday for one or two weeks; sorry can't remember which. But anyway , these books teach your kids to read the same way as the leapfrog tag system only you didn't pay $15 for one book. Another reason why I love these books is because they have several wonderful functions. There is an auto play for my luvbug to listen to his favorite story. I can read him the story and turn the pages myself just like a real book, and the best part that makes it just like the tag system is that you can touch each word and it tells you what the word is. Not to mention if my luvbug touches anywhere on the screen , it automatically tells him what the picture is. Now the iPad can do more then just teach your preschooler or toddler how to read but with an iPad you won't have to purchase the your baby can read system because the apple store is full of flash cards that are animated and most of them are free while the rest are just $.99 .

So you don't have a preschooler or a toddler, then I still suggest getting the iPad for your elementary , middle schooler , or high schooler. Because of all the learning apps from science to Algebra. And with the iBooks , nooks, and kindle apps , your child can download all their favorite books to read. And most of the classic books that are required reading for school Are free to download. Just like having a computer in the house was a key for our educational success growing up; so is giving your child an iPad. It's an investment in not only their future but their education as well. The iPad just isn't about fun and games and watching movies and listening to music but a true learning tool, that is interactive. I just love the look on my luvbugs face when he squeals with delight, when he turns on his iPad and goes to his learning games.

A response to the ridiculous Statements on Facebook made by : WandaHenderson Harris concerning Gabrielle Douglas Hair and how her mothershould be a shame for her daughter to be on national tv with unkepthair.

I've been seeing the debate happen on twitter then it came across my facebook news feed when a closed minded superficial person decided to bash Gabby Douglas. ( I have obtain photos of these statements for you to view) I was very please with all the people and their comments that came in Gabby's defense when Wanda posted up her ridiculous statements. Now what makes me madder than mad is that when another black mother criticizes a teen about her hair then bashes her mother, when will we black people come together as a whole and stop it with this crabs in the barrel type mentality ?! Now let's take a look at some of the statements that Wanda made that I will be addressing:

Wanda Henderson Harris Stupid and superficial statements:

1) Her hair looks pretty ruff, folks can be pretty unforgiving about it, myself included. It coulda been fix better before she went on international tv.

2) there are much better ways it could have been fix much better, can't give her mother a pass on that

3) I know how expensive gymnastics coaching is, I am just wondering if she knew she was going why didn't she get braids are something . Ppl may say its not important but it is, you can see all that gel IV that new growth, not good. Looks like she needs a relaxer really bad.

4) girl its just true, no way my child would go to any competition, without her hair looking nice. Her mom found the money for the lessons, she coulda paid for a hairdo. One she could just tie and keep neat during the competition.

5) I don't think it was neat at all, it was a distraction, it was painfully noticeable, had her hair been really neat no one would be talking. I was like oh man , why didn't she get her hair fix before she left.

6) going to the Olympics shoulda been a time to be focused for but also to look nice. I don't excuse it, she had plenty of time to prepare. It's not shallow, preparation time is never lost time

7) her hair is a representation of her trying to fit in with white culture . And that's what brought her to jack up hair.

Now Wanda you are a disgrace as a black mother. Their was nothing wrong with Gabby's hair. I didn't pay any attention to it because I was so busy focusing on her skills as a gymnast and I am sure the judges were as well. As a female gymnast , your child's hair needs to be pulled back and clipped away from the face so it will not interfere with the flips, jumps, tumbles, turns and what have you, you claim that Gabby's hair look pretty ruff and that she needs a relaxer very badly. Well according to your photos on Facebook you are well passed your turn for a relaxer and your hair is standing all over the place and Gabby's hair look a lot nicer then yours. Next you claim that your child will not go to any competition without their hair looking nice, and how I'd her mom found money for lessons she coulda paid for a hairdo. Can you please enlighten us on. How many gold medals your child have? What about a 90 million dollar endorsement deal with Kellogg's ? Does your child have one of those. See I am guessing that you are very shallow and raising your daughters to be the same way. That's why they will probably never achieve what Gabrielle Douglas have. You see, Gabby mom did the right thing. Her daughter was busy training for the gold while I am sure your daughters were somewhere being like Amber Cole and unless they make what she did into an Olympic event they will never see a gold medal . (for those of you unfamiliar with who Amber Cole is google her). You also claim that her hair wasn't neat but a distraction and painfully noticeable, ok I see from your profile that you sell Mary Kay, what if I told you that your hair was a distraction and it hindered me from wanting to buy makeup or beauty products from you because I am trying to figure out how you could ever put a come through that nappy mess? The most stupidest closed minded statement you could have ever made was the one about how going to the Olympics is a time to look nice and how she had plenty of time to prepare. Let me ask you this , how many olympics have you been in ? What about your kids? I thought going to the Olympics was a time to increase your training and focus on winning because you will be competing against some of the worlds best / top athletes. Then lastly you claim that her hair looks jacked up because she is trying to fit into white culture. Wanda as a mother I am shock that another mother would stoop so low and downgrade another child and her mother, have you heard the old saying sweep around your on front door , or the manner that you judge someone they will judge you twice as hard? I for one want to know who are you to talk? I have yet to see a photo of your hair looking all fabulous or your daughters hair looking fabulous. Have y'all even made it into the history books. This is what is wrong with our race, we have close minded, superficial black folks like you who are installing these same shallow values in your own daughters. You as a black woman , then as a black mother should have been extremely proud of this young lady accomplishments. But just like crabs in a barrel you try and belittle her and pull her down because of your own insecurities. How would you feel if everyone started tweeting about a Mary Kay representative who needs a relaxer before she tried to sell beauty products to ladies. Because her hair is ruff and nappy and unkempt and it's no reason or excuse for someone who sells Beauty products to have jack up hair like that? Or if you found money to sell Mary Kay by buying the start up kit then you coulda found money for a perm? In all honesty I think you are just jealous that this young lady made history by doing something that you nor your own daughters could do, do in order to feel better you decides to bash hair.

My Future Gold Medal Olympic Winner

After watching the Fab 5 win the gold medal in the 2012 summer Olympic games for women gymnastic, makes me think as a mother I need to put my love bug in gymnastic classes now. Just the thought of how these young ladies were babies themselves with the exception of one of them because she wasn't born yet, the last time the USA won a gold medal as a team in women gymnastic. My love bug already at almost 20 months, jumps, flips, tumbles, climbs and does splits. I think it's time to began his Olympic training, I am pretty sure his competition for the 2028 summer Olympic games has already begun training. Now I must admit that I cried like a baby during the one commercial that showed the mothers of these athletes . This commercial showed young kids doing the sporting events and the mothers cheering them on. Then at the end it read, To the moms they will always be little kids. That was the best commercial so far that I have seen.
